Bing Webmaster Tools Basics

Bing Webmaster Tools is worth using for small publisher sites, especially when Bing or Yahoo traffic contributes meaningful visits or revenue. It can import verified sites from Google Search Console, accept sitemap submissions, and provide URL submission tools.

Useful Bing checks

  • Confirm the site is verified in Bing Webmaster Tools.
  • Submit the main sitemap.xml file.
  • Use URL Submission for important new or updated URLs when appropriate.
  • Review crawl/indexing reports for patterns.
  • Check user permissions if Bing imports ownership from Google Search Console.

Where IndexNow fits

IndexNow is a notification protocol that can tell participating search engines when URLs are added, updated, or deleted. It is useful for publishing workflows, but it does not replace useful content, clean canonicals, and a valid sitemap.

Google and Bing together

Use both systems. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools do different jobs and can surface different issues. A clean launch flow should submit sitemaps to both where possible.
